Go Green Poster Contest Winners Announced

Council Bluffs, IA, April 8, 2014 – The results are in from the third annual poster contest sponsored by Red River Waste Solutions and the Council Bluffs Recycling Center! This year’s theme was
“Go Green to Keep CB Clean!”

Third and fourth graders from twelve schools participated in the contest. Art teachers chose the top two posters from each school to submit to the City Council members to judge and declare the top four

The first place prize goes to Alexis C. McCarthy, a 4th grader at Roosevelt Elementary School.  Her poster depicted various ways to practice going green such as recycling and riding your bike instead of driving. Second place is awarded to Stephanie Green, a 4th grader at College View Elementary. Her picture displays a globe with a recycle symbol and a smiling sun.

Katelyn Arnold of Rue Elementary took the third place prize. This 4th grader depicted a rainbow of colors with globes and recycling symbols. Fourth place is granted to Emma Schmidt, a 4th grader at Lewis and Clark Elementary, who portrayed a globe, people working together and flourishing evergreen trees.

The top four winners acquire cash prizes for their schools. First place wins $1,250; second place wins $1,000; third place wins $750, and fourth place wins $500.The winning posters will be displayed on the Red River Waste Solutions recycling collection trucks that run in Council Bluffs throughout the year. A recycle truck will debut at the Celebrate CB Parade with the four winning posters. All the posters entered in the contest are currently displayed at the Council Bluffs Public Library.
