Citizens of Del Rio, on December 30, 2013 the Mayor and City Council awarded Red River Waste Solutions LP a new seven (7) contract to provide solid waste
management and recycling collection services for all residential, commercial and industrial roll off customers in Del Rio. We are extremely excited about our
continued partnership with the community and we look forward to implementing a citywide “Single-Stream” curbside recycling service that will begin March 31,
2014. In addition, we will be offering a cardboard collection service for the commercial businesses of Del Rio, to help reduce the overall cost of commercial waste
collection services.

There are no changes to the existing collection schedule for residential or commercial solid waste, bulk waste, yard waste and brush collection services. Effective
February 1, 2014 brush collection services will be performed exclusively by the City of Del Rio’s Department of Public Health.

Residential Solid Waste, Yard Waste and Bulk Waste Collection

Each residential customer who has an active water account will continue to use the existing 95-gallon roll cart. The added benefits to the new solid waste
collection is that Red River will collect all yard Waste (bagged grass and leaves) and bulk waste placed next to the cart each week. Remember, the City will collect
the brush will grapple trucks and Red River will collect bagged yard waste.

Important information to keep in mind to avoid residential service interruptions:

  • Residential solid waste collection will be provided once per week
  • Collection date and time – Monday through Thursday from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm
  • Roll Carts must be placed curbside by 6:00 am on collection day
  • Bagged yard waste and bulk waste must be placed next to roll cart
  • All solid waste must be in bags and placed into the roll cart
  • Roll carts must have unobstructed access
  • Place roll carts within five feet from the curb/street with handle facing the house.

Residential Brush Collection

Brush collection will be provided by the City of Del Rio to all residential customers who have an active water account and live within the City limits. The City will
maintain the current brush collection schedule that is in place, any changes to this schedule will be made by the City.

  • Brush will be collected curbside once per month
  • Each account may set-out 5 cubic yards of brush per month
  • All brush must be cut into manageable lengths and widths to allow for efficient collection
  • Mulch is available free of charge for residents at the City landfill

Residential Recycling Collection

Beginning on March 31, 2014, Red River will be implementing the City’s first residential curbside “Single Stream” recycling service to the citizens of Del Rio. This
new service will allow the community the option to reduce the amount of solid waste that is disposed of at the City landfill, preserving valuable airspace at the
landfill for many generations to come.

This service will be provided every other week (EOW) utilizing 18 gallon recycling bins provide by Red River. The amount of recyclables that can be set-out is
unlimited; however, you must use your recycling bin and any other container that will properly contain your recyclables.
What is Single Stream recycling? It is basically an industry term that means, “all acceptable recyclables can be co-mingled into the same container with no sorting
of the material by the customer.” The sorting and processing of the collected recyclables will occur at a recycling center licensed to accept the collected recycling
commodities.

The Single Stream recyclables that will be accepted in the new service are listed below:

  • Metal Containers Aluminum cans Ferrous cans
  • Plastic containers (1&2)
  • Box Board
  • Newsprint/magazines
  • Mail
  • Direct mail advertisements
  • Old corrugated containers

** Items that are not listed above or items that are contaminated will not be collected.

Commercial Recycling Collection

Beginning on March 31, 2014, Red River will be implementing the City’s first commercial cardboard recycling service to the commercial business of Del Rio. This
new service will allow the community the option to reduce the amount of solid waste that is disposed of at the City landfill, preserving valuable airspace at the
landfill for many generations to come. Many businesses in Del Rio dispose of cardboard in their solid waste dumpsters, this new service will allow for additional
capacity for solid waste with the potential to reduce the frequency of the solid waste collection service.

Our commercial recycling dumpster service will include the following:

  • Commercial businesses are provided recycling collection services using metal dumpsters
  • Metal dumpsters for cardboard recycling are only available in a 4 cubic yard capacity
  • Collection frequencies are available from once per week to six times per week
  • Locking devices and casters are available for an additional fees – this will protect illegal dumping
  • Commercial businesses are responsible for the accessibility, care and cleaning of their recycling dumpster
  • Collection frequencies will be monitored to make sure the service is adequate for the recycling volume produced
  • Additional recycling pick-ups are available during peak recycling volume occurrences

Commercial Waste Collection

Commercial waste collection will remain as scheduled. No changes to this service will occur.

Our commercial dumpster service will include the following:

  • Commercial businesses are provided solid waste collection services using metal dumpsters
  • Metal dumpsters are available in 2, 3 and 4 cubic yard capacities
  • Collection frequencies are available from once per week to six times per week
  • Locking devices and casters are available for an additional fees
  • Commercial businesses are responsible for the accessibility, care and cleaning of their dumpster
  • Collection frequencies will be monitored to make sure the service is adequate for the waste volume produced
  • Additional commercial pick-ups are available during peak waste volume occurrences

Landfill Operation and Management

In addition to the collection services provided above Red River will also manage and operate the City’s landfill located at 1897 Railway Road. The landfill will be
open Monday thru Friday from 6:00 am to 4:45 pm and on Saturday from 6:00 am to 1:45 pm. The City landfill is a valuable resource in which we need to work
together in preserving its useful life. Red River will operate this facility in strict accordance with local, State and Federal guidelines. The City will oversee the daily
landfill operation, provide engineering assistance, management and operation of the scale house and perform brush grinding operations at the landfill.
Residents of the City of Del Rio can use the City landfill free of charge to deposit household solid waste and brush only. Customers must provide a valid photo I.D.
to show proof of residency. All commercial customers will be charged for landfill use, regardless of residency. (Note: Delinquent water accounts must be brought
current prior to depositing items in landfill.)
